Hailsham Man Accidentally Drives Through Town Centre And Is Still Trying To Find His Way Out
Family appeal for information after routine five-minute journey enters its second afternoon.

HAILSHAM, SUSSEX — A Hailsham man who attempted to make a "quick trip through town" is reportedly still driving after becoming trapped in an increasingly confusing sequence of roundabouts, junctions and roads he is convinced "didn't used to be there."
Peter Lawson, 58, left home intending to collect a parcel before returning approximately twenty minutes later.
That was yesterday.
His wife first became concerned when Peter called to announce he could see somewhere he recognised.
"He sounded incredibly relieved," she said. "Then about five minutes later he rang again and said he'd somehow come back to the same roundabout."
Navigation Attempts Fail
Peter initially refused to use satellite navigation because he has "lived around here for years."
After 45 minutes, he reluctantly switched it on.
The device instructed him to turn left.
Peter disagreed.
Things deteriorated from there.
"I know a shortcut," he reportedly told his wife shortly before disappearing towards a housing estate.
Supplies Running Low
By early evening, Peter had consumed the emergency packet of mints stored in his glovebox and was reportedly considering stopping for provisions.
Family members attempted to guide him home by telephone.
Instructions including "head towards Eastbourne" and "just follow the signs" were unsuccessful.
Peter claims several signs are "clearly working together."
Rescue Finally Underway
A family member eventually located Peter this morning approximately two miles from home.
He refused assistance.
"I know exactly where I am now," he insisted.
He then indicated right.
His family shouted at him to stop.
Peter was last seen approaching the roundabout again.
The parcel was never collected.
