Council Installs Sign Explaining Why Previous Sign Was Removed

EAST SUSSEX — Council officials have installed a new information sign explaining why an older information sign was recently removed.

The original sign, which informed residents about planned improvements to the area, disappeared earlier this year after the improvements were postponed.

Residents subsequently complained that nobody had explained why the sign explaining the improvements had disappeared.

The council has now responded by installing another sign.

It reads: "NOTICE: PREVIOUS NOTICE REMOVED."

A smaller paragraph underneath explains that the previous notice "no longer accurately reflected the anticipated delivery timeframe of the proposed works."

Resident Colin Barker said the clarification had been useful.

"I didn't know why the sign had gone.

"Now there's a sign telling me.

"Obviously I still don't know what's happening with the actual work."

Council officials said transparency was extremely important.

"We recognise residents expect clear communication," a spokesperson said.

"The new signage provides important information regarding the status of the previous signage."

Asked when the improvements themselves would begin, the spokesperson said an update would be provided shortly.

Residents have requested this update be displayed on a sign.

The council is considering it.
